Is it too early to start thinking about Valentine’s Day? Better not ask your significant other that. The CDs in my Top Ten list can melt the hardest of hearts, whether you’re trying to rekindle an old flame, start a new one burning, or merely hoping to make up for last year. Pop, R&B, doo-wop, soul, lounge, country, and more… here’s my pick for the ten greatest Oldies albums for lovers.

Spring may be far from in the air, but with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’m taking a look at the greatest oldies romantic duets of the 50s, 60s, and 70s… not just the obvious pledges of love and devotion (although they’re here, too), but also funny, sad, tragic, and otherwise unconventional duets that symbolize the perils of love as well as the joys.
The winners for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards are in, and I’ve got the full list right here — or, at least, the nominees and winners oldies music lovers care about, the pop and rock radio favorites of the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies. Some of these folks are making the best music of their careers, and some, in my opinion, anyway, are just marking time. But you can decide for yourself with this guide, which features clips from all the nominated songs and details on all the nominated albums.
Soul’s first retro phenomenon is also the one that refuses to die… at least in the UK, its place of origin. Why did kids in the North of England decide to revere flop singles that imitated Motown, and how did it develop into a complete subculture?
