Klinsmann confident Altidore will still play role in Cup play

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann is confident that striker Jozy Altidore can still play a strong role at the World Cup despite the left hamstring injury he sustained in Monday’s match against Ghana.

Altidore had an MRI on his leg Tuesday and the team would watch to see how he responds this week.

Klinsmann said he is full of hope that Altidore would still come back during the tournament and make the impact that he has been known to have with the team.

Clint Dempsey will for sure play during Sunday’s game against Portugal, most likely with a mask after suffering a broken nose that bloodied his face and took him out of the match on Monday briefly.

And Klinsmann added that Matt Besler, who also exited Monday at halftime with a hamstring issue will definitely return to play against Portugal.

Rangers continue to struggle in loss to A's

The Texas Rangers continue to struggle this year as Yu Darvish, one of the few healthy stars on the roster, got the start against the A’s last night in their 10-6 loss.

Derek Norris delivered a pinch-hit homer and drove in five runs, Stephen Vogt went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Oakland’s win.

Darvish allowed seven runs – four earned – and eight hits over five-plus innings. He walked five and struck out eight, including Brandon Moss in the first for career strikeout number 600.Rougned Odor homered, tripled and drove in three runs for Texas.

The Rangers have been plagued with injuries this year, replacing nearly half of the original starting lineup, and going as many as three deep in some positions.

But they continue to push on, hovering right around the .500 mark on the season.

Romo suits up in Hanie's practice jersey to sneak into huddle

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is clearly anxious to get back on the field with his team. During yesterday’s practice at Cowboys minicamp, he went so far as to snag Caleb Hanie’s practice jersey and snuck into the huddle for a brief moment before coach Jason Garrett caught him.

Garret was quoted as saying, “It was pretty obvious that the jersey was a little snug on him. That’s when I looked and said, ‘Get him out of the huddle.’

“He’s a competitive guy. He wants to play. He wants to be out there. We have a conversation ever morning about how many reps he’s going to get and the answer is the same.”

The Cowboys report for training camp on July 22 and will have their first team practice on July 24th.
