Woman in jail after shooting man she met on dating site
A woman is behind bars this morning after attempting to kill a man she met on a dating site.
The Carter County Sheriff’s office says the couple had been living together for just 5 days after meeting on the dating site ‘Plenty of Fish’ when one of them tried to kill the other.
43-year-old Heide Gum has been charged with shooting with intent to kill. Wednesday night, the two reportedly got into an argument and Gum shot the man in the chest at her residence in the 3600 block of Hedges Road.
The man had been staying with Gum for a few days after the two met on the site.
The man is expected to be OK. Gum’s bond is set at $75,000.
Marshall County man in jail after high-speed pursuit
A Marshall County man is in jail again after leading police on a high speed chase.
Johnny Carter was charged with reckless endangerment, and obstructing and attempting to elude an officer, among other charges.
Police arrested him last Thursday after chasing him through Madill that also included a foot pursuit.
Carter has several charges in Marshall County that includes an escape from the detention center and assault and battery.
Multi-million dollar plan passed in Oklahoma for Education
A plan to eventually boost public school funding in Oklahoma by $600M each year cleared the state senate on Wednesday, although the final details still need to be negotiated.
The Senate voted unanimously for the Securing Education Excellence Fund, which calls for an additional $30M to be spent on K-12 schools next year. That amount would increase by $30M each year until the $600M figure is reached.
Senator James Halligan, who authored the bill, said that to address concerns about earmarking more revenue, the funds would be added only in years where there is growth of at least 1 percent in the state’s General Revenue Fund.
Missing Atoka inmate captured
And Howard McLeod Correctional Center in Atoka County reported late yesterday that 56-year-old escapee Kenneth Beasley has been captured.
Beasley left the minimum security facility on Wednesday evening. He was being held there for robbery by fear, kidnapping and escape from custody.
