Ardmore swears in new commission member, announces new mayor and vice-mayor
The City of Ardmore has a new face on the city commission as well as some familiar faces stepping into new roles.
During last night’s city commission meeting, Doug Pfau was sworn in as a city commissioner in place of Keith King who elected not to run for his position on the commission this year.
Pfau won his election earlier this year.
The other switch came in long-time commission member Martin Dyer stepping back into the role as mayor of Ardmore and John Moore moving over to the vice-mayor position.
King and former mayor Sheryl Elis were both recognized for their services during a short ceremony.
Motorcyclist killed in Grayson County Monday
One man was killed yesterday in a motorcycle accident in Grayson County.
Troopers say the accident happened at around 3 p.m. on Jenkins road and FM 902 when the man’s motorcycle was traveling toward Collinsville when the driver went off the road for an unknown reason.
The motorcycle flipped over several times and threw the driver off, ultimately causing his death.
His name is not yet being released.
Garvin County accident claims one life
Another accident in Garvin County claimed the life of a man from Wanette Oklahoma late Sunday evening.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol say Rickie W. Garcia was killed when his vehicle drifted to the right for unknown reasons in the southbound lane of I-35 near mile-marker 72, struck another vehicle, overcorrected to the left, then to the right then overturned a number of times. Garcia was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at Pauls Valley General Hospital shortly after.
The driver and passengers of the other vehicle were uninjured and were wearing their seatbelts. Garcia was not.
Love County Fire Departments aiding in Guthrie wildfire
And finally the Johnston County Fire Task Force was deployed late yesterday to help aid with the wildfire near Guthrie.
EMS Director Kenny Power said crews of 12 firefighters from seven departments drove to Guthrie yesterday with four brush trucks, one water tender, one EMS unit and one command unit.
